There is a scripture in the book of Esther in which Mordecai says to his cousin Esther "...and who knows that you have become a queen for such a time as this?" I always knew in the back of my mind legendary poet,writer, activist, and professor Ms. Nikki Giovanni(left) was teaching at Virginia Tech, but I couldn't figure out why. Being one of the giants of poetry of the 70s, along with Sonia Sanchez, I presumed she'd be at Howard, Spelman, or Hampton.

After watching her read the poem she composed for the Virginia Tech memorial service, I now know why she is there....."Queen Nikki" is there"for such a time as this." (Clip is in first paragraph of CNN article here.
